ABCardionostics at the NSFA Congress 2026 (Biarritz)

The ABCardionostics project represented by the CRMSB team was present at the NSFA Congress 2026, held in Biarritz, a key French meeting bringing together researchers and clinicians working on atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

Within the project, this work is part of Work Package 1, which focuses on understanding how different populations of monocytes and macrophages behave within atherosclerotic plaques. WP1 aims to identify and characterise both “culprit” and “protective” immune cell subsets in rupture-prone plaques, using advanced imaging approaches and functional profiling tools.

At the congress, Valentine Michel (PhD, CRMSB – Université de Bordeaux) presented a part of her PhD research in a poster session. Her work explores the role of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] as a driver of an inflammatory, lipid-associated macrophage phenotype, contributing to a better understanding of how lipids can shape immune cell behaviour in atherosclerosis.
